What new cars still have an ashtray?

I noticed my 2013 GMC Sierra HD has an old-fashioned ashtray in the lower dash next to the drivers right knee. Complete with a divot to hold a cigarette and I don't know what the four grooves to the right of it are for. How quaint I thought, then I wondered how many new cars are available with an old fashioned ashtray today. Can't be very many! Curiously, GM decided to leave the ashtray but does not provide an old fashioned push in electrical lighter. Are there any of those available in new cars?

A lot of cars come with the option for a 'smoker's package' which includes the lighter and an ash tray.

Those are spliff holders. Wait I mean those are for rubbing the lit end of the cigarette against to put it out.

It has a lot to do with the fact people still smoke.

The grooves are for stubbing your cig out when your done.

The ash tray in most of these packages amounts to a Solo cup with attached lid

On my car, the "smoker's package" is an ashtray that goes in the cupholder.

I recall the 'smoker's package' but haven't seen any lately. Do you know of a current model with that option?

True, but it seems you rarely see an ashtray on a new car. Like the old triangle A pillar vent windows and foot buttons for high beams, ashtrays seem to be going away.

The ATS and the BRZ do though I think on the BRZ it's just an ash tray without the lighter. I think I saw it as an option or dealer accessory on nearly everything I was looking into a couple months ago.

Ironically, I'm under the impression that those so-called "old triangle A pillar vent windows" (I don't really know what they are called either) were designed for smokers, so that they wouldn't have to open the big window.

That said, I haven't seen one of those in quite some time...

These might be related. With triangle window to vent out of you have no reason to just keep your cigarette in your left hand. That means it's free to hit a column mounted high beam switch instead of only having your foot to do so. Imagine the console burns if you had to work a column lever with a lit cigarette!

lol, when was the last time you saw someone conscientious enough to actually not throw the butt out on the side of the road? They don't even think of it as littering!

We were discussing that earlier, seems it faded out right around 1998 with the new F series Fords and B series Dodges.

I think they're called 'vent windows'. I guess the smoker thing is partially true- cars didn't have decent flow-through ventilation until the '60s, and those vent windows were the next best thing for providing draft-free ventilation. Even older cars had wind wings for that.

My 2014 Z4 came with the smokers package. Ash tray & push in lighter. I think most car companies offer it as a no cost option.

I was told by a mechanic that they were for holding used match sticks
At first I thought it was plausible
but then I realised what the cigarette lighter is for .. so ..

I think your leg was pulled! Those look too wide for that. They also look too narrow for holding a fag etc. And I don't think grooves are required for stubbing out when there's an ashtray right there!

I was a gullible young lad back in the day. I think you are right though, My Civic has a similar tray and the only plausible answer is its for stubbing out fags.
Also as a smoker , I still don't get why people use car ashtrays. What is the point .

Funny story, on the way to London me and friends were ashing out the window and a cop on a bike rode up alongside us and scolded us! He said the ash was going into his face which it wasn't but we got the point he was trying to make and stopped :P
